California’s Proposition 65, formally named the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986, was originally intended to protect drinking water from contamination. Now, Proposition 65 is updated annually and has expanded to cover chemicals found in consumer products. These chemicals are “known to the State of California to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm”.

Proposition 65 requires warnings on products that contain any of the listed chemicals or ingredients The list contains a wide range of naturally occurring and synthetic chemicals that include additives or ingredients in pesticides, common household products, food, drugs, dyes, or solvents. Listed chemicals may also be used in manufacturing and construction, or they may be byproducts of chemical processes, such as motor vehicle exhaust.

These warnings are only required on products shipping into California, but we have chosen to place them on all products as they are produced.

Martin Furniture honors these compliance regulations and always puts the safety of our customers and employees first.
